Vintage style wedding reception - Decorating with ikea

So many brides today are steering away from the generic reception venue centrepieces and designing their very own look to tie in with their over all theme for the day.  This could be done by hiring a decorator / props person but some enjoy the "hunt" of sourcing their own special pieces to put together their very own look for their tables.

Scouring vintage and second hand stores including online sellers has become increasingly popular but often finding the perfect pieces can be difficult and expensive at times (particularly if you find your dream pieces and they need to be shipped internationally!!).

While pottering through Ikea with my little family recently I was once again reminded of how great a place it can be to get some fabulous "vintage inspired" pieces for your wedding reception.  Of course it is well worth the wander through to get some ideas of the pieces in action but a great start is just to flick through the pages of their website over a lunch break.  I have put together some of my favourite of their current smaller pieces.  They also have some fabulous larger pieces if you are going all out with your styling - but of course this starts to  add up money wise and effort wise when you almost need furniture removalists to do the drop off and pick up at the venue!!

Why not team up some of your own hand made or original vintage pieces with one or two modern vintage inspired Ikea pieces to create the perfect centrepiece.  They even have a small range of artificial flowers and rose petals (I used the rose petals from Ikea for my own wedding, as well as some of the mirror pieces).
(These are clear glass candle holders but you can see if you add the tealight candles that sit in the silver metal piece it gives them a silver look - team them up with a pastel floral centrepiece - gorgeous!)

(Wouldn't these look gorgeous strung from a tree for an outdoor ceremony or reception with either a candle or some freshly picked flowers)

(Frames can be a gorgeous way to display your table names / numbers or they could hold images of your parents and grandparents wedding photos to put on the cake table)

(I love these small coloured glass candle holders)

(Team the silver vase up with some long stemmed flowers and perhaps even the odd ostrich feather for a really stylish centrepiece)

(Gorgeous coloured glass bowls can go so well with an eclectic mix of vintage porcelain pieces for a lovely high tea reception)
