I have been in love with this dress from the first moment that I saw pics of this wedding months ago and I just have to share it with you all.
The bride made the green dress underneath herself based on an original vintage dress and she then crocheted all of the vintage inspired doilies over three weeks to create a really fun contrast. On the day she was literally sewn into her gown to give the most gorgeous all over design with the crocheted doilies!
I also absolutely love the spring green with the soft pink - the two colours just look amazing together.
This crocheted dress sort of reminds me of one of Audrey Hepburn's dresses in Funny Face.
Love the gorgeous green and cream crochet dress but don't want the tedious job of making all of those doilies or sourcing vintage doilies to create it? Well Tessuti Fabrics has an ivory guipure lace that almost looks like a mass of crocheted doilies that could be used either over a matching ivory or over a fabulous contrast colour such as the spring green in our inspiration dress above. The best part of all is that they have an online shop so you don't even need to be in Sydney to purchase it!
After drooling over such an amazing hand crafted dress it got me thinking about crocheted wedding dresses. This look was quite popular in the 30s and then again in the 50s and early 60s. I found some gorgeous patterns to make your very own crocheted wedding dress if you are handy with a hook and yarn or have a nanna who is! (Of course you will need a handy seamstress to create a gown for underneath for obvious reasons!!)
