Vintage Style Shoes: Suna Shoes

I have fond memories of Suna Shoes going back to my early teens.  This great little business started off in Toowoomba, where I grew up, and being a very tall young girl of course my feet also grew at a rapid rate.  It wasn't long before they hit their current size 10 length and pickings were slim for shoes of that size at the time.  Big department stores seemed to only get a couple of pairs of size 10 in each style and once they were sold out you were just left with the ugly styles...... then my mum and I discovered Suna Shoes.  This was one of the few stores around that actually had a decent selection of shoes for the larger footed lady - and still does! - so it was a store I shopped in frequently (when I could bring myself to take on the task of choosing shoes - very hard for an indecisive Libran!)

So here we are in 2011 and Suna Shoes can be found all over Queensland with stores not only in Toowoomba but Brisbane, Rockhampton, Caloundra and now Cairns.  For those who don't live in any of those fine cities, Suna Shoes has a fabulous online store and they ship Australia and Worldwide.  They have such a great range of shoes on their online store including which colour options are available for each style that I frequently refer my brides to their website to have a quick online shop before checking out their store in person to see if there is something to suit their taste.  Many of their shoes are available in white/ivory shades for brides as well as colours for bridesmaids or those fun brides who love a splash of colour for their own shoes!!

I realise that these shoes are more "vintage inspired" and not authentic vintage reproduction shoes but they do look ever so great with an original vintage gown or a vintage inspired wedding dress.  Back in the old days not only were most brides teeny tiny compared to all of us modern gals but of course their feet were much smaller so it's pretty rare to stumble across a fabulous pair of original vintage heels for your big day (if you do find something original thats perfect I take my hat off to you!!).  For of you brides searching for authentic wedding accessories I will be doing a feature on a few companies who offer vintage reproduction shoes that are exact copies of some of the fantastic styles of the past - so stay tuned!

Not only do they have a huge selection of killer heels but they have a great range of flat shoes for brides and bridesmaids.  Whether you want to go for comfort all day long or have a second pair of shoes to slip into at the reception to boogie the night away a cute pair of flatties is always a good idea.  Dancing brides - stay tuned for a feature on specialised swing dancing shoes that look great as wedding shoes as well as dancing shoes.

To get you started on a little shoe inspiration I have included some of my favourite of their current styles in this post but don't hesitate to visit their site or one of their stores for more fabulous shoes!
